Good for lunch

The Gallery restaurant has now closed at Selfridges and work has begun on transforming it into the Hix Restaurant & Champagne Bar, which will look out over the posh handbag department from the mezzanine level. The all-day menu of British cuisine with international influences will include some lighter dishes so that the overseas shopper in a hurry is suitably catered for. The design is by Sir Terence Conran's team and will include art works from Tracey Emin, who must make a good living from restaurant commissions alone. The sign says they'll be open in March and the idea of brunch then shopping and then a late lunch is too much to contemplate.
